US Patent 7483112 - CNT liquid crystal on silicon micro-display
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7483112.html
In order to achieve color uniformity in a type of liquid crystal display this patent from Document Scanner Technology (formerly Sysview) and Splendid Optronics teaches the inclusion of nanotubes to control a cell gap. Claim 1 reads:
1. A nano-liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) chip, comprising:
a first substrate portion;
a rim seal having a generally closed loop shape and laid on said first substrate portion to form a space surrounded by said rim seal and said first substrate portion;
a second substrate portion aligned substantially in parallel to said first substrate portion and positioned over said rim seal to enclose said space; and
a plurality of carbon-nanotube (CNT) pillars having a predetermined height and grown on said second substrate portion and positioned between said first and second substrate portions to provide a uniform spacing therebetween, wherein a liquid crystal is filled in said space.
