US Patent 7863258 - Nanoparticle cancer treatment

This patent teaches using nanoparticles for anti-cancer drug delivery in which chitosan enhances absorption. Claim 1 reads:

1. A method of treating a cancer in an animal subject comprising

administering nanoparticles consisting of an antineoplastic drug or anti-cancer therapeutic agent in effective amount to treat said cancer, positively charged chitosan, and a negatively charged substrate,

wherein a surface of said nanoparticles is dominated by the positively charged chitosan.

US Patent 7754107 - Visualizing CNTs with Qdots

A few methods exist to attach carbon nanotubes to quantum dots in order to label and track the nanotubes. However, the attachment of the quantum dot can either damage the nanotube structure or be too weak in which case the quantum dot is easily detached. This patent from National Tsing Hua University teaches a technique intended to resolve these problems. Claim 1 reads:

1. A method of visualizing a carbon nanotube, comprising:

bonding a plurality of linking molecules to surfaces of a plurality of quantum dots;

attaching the quantum dots to the carbon nanotube through non-covalent bonding via the linking molecules,

wherein the linking molecule is (1-pyrenyl)methyl 6,8-dimercaptooctanoate; and

making the quantum dots emit light.

US Patent 7291598 - Nanoparticles for insulin delivery

This patent from GP Medical and National Tsing Hua University discloses a chemical composition for nanoparticulate insulin delivery to treat diabetes. Claim 1 reads:

1. A method of treating diabetes of a patient comprising orally administering insulin containing nanoparticles with a dosage effective amount of said insulin to treat said diabetes, wherein at least a portion of said nanoparticles comprises chitosan substrate and poly(glutamic acid).
