US Patent 7349085 - Detecting CNT orientation using lasers
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7349085.html
In order to properly characterize a carbon nanotube it is helpful to actually know the orientation of the nanotube. This patent from Intel teaches a method of doing this using dual laser beams. Claim 1 reads:
1. A method comprising: illuminating a carbon nanotube with a first laser beam and a second laser beam transverse to one another; and monitoring the effect on transmission of light from said first laser beam as the polarization of the second laser beam is changed.
